Logitech Zone Wireless 2 in review

As someone who works from home and spends a lot of time on Microsoft Teams calls, I need a reliable and comfortable headset that can deliver clear audio and noise cancellation. And I also love to test out new tech. As I got the opportunity (thank you Logitech!) to test these two months ago, I of course wanted to try the Logitech Zone Wireless 2 headset. It is a wireless on-ear headset that is designed for both work and play, but for my use, I focus and use it only at work context. In this article I will share my review of this headset, based on my personal experiences for these couple of months and tech specs from Logitech site. Those of you who know me, I am not very keen on on-ear headsets, but I did accept this challenge to see how current versions work with me.

Features and Specifications

The Logitech Zone Wireless 2 headset is a Bluetooth headset that can connect to up to two devices at the same time, such as a laptop and a smartphone. It has a USB-C dongle that allows it to work with Microsoft Teams and other compatible apps, without any drivers or software installation. There are two versions of this headset: Microsoft Teams and UC. For some reason I got the UC version, so I do miss the functionality Teams version provides: a dedicated Teams button on the earcup that lets you join and leave calls with a single press. However, both versions are Microsoft Teams Certified.

There is a flip-to-mute microphone that automatically mutes you when you flip it up, with a cool new feature that you can flip it to either side. This way it is possible to switch microphone side: you can use it on the right (like I do) or on the left. Simply clever! (yes, I know that slogan is from certain car manufacturer, but it applies here as well).

And features do not stop there: active noise cancellation (ANC) can (as usual) be selected between high, low and transparency settings. I set it to high and never changed it… The microphone also has noise-canceling technology with 4 omni-directional MEMs with Advanced Call Clarity and it reduces ambient / background noise and enhances your voice to other participants in the call. The headset has a battery life of up to 15 hours of talk time (ANC on) and can be recharged with a USB-C cable. It also comes with a travel pouch.

Picture from Logitech site. Tap or swipe to control media and volume. Sensors know when the headset is removed and automatically pause the media or mute you.

Logitech also says it is possible to connect the headset to a computer with a USB-cable, so you can use it as a corded headset and charge it at the same time. And, as usual with Logitech devices, you should install LogiTune to manage the device – or if your organization wants to manage devices centrally it is also possible with Logitech Sync.

Design and Comfort

The Logitech Zone Wireless 2 headset has a minimalist design, with a black matte finish – nothing that stands out from other work headsets. The headset is lightweight and has an adjustable headband that fits different head sizes. The earcups are on-ear, meaning they rest on your ears rather than covering them completely. This makes them more breathable and less prone to heating, but also less isolating from external sounds by design. The earcups can swivel and fold flat, making them easy to store and carry. The headset has intuitive controls on the earcups and a voice prompt telling you the battery level and connection & mute status and so on.

Earpad is very soft. After two months of testing, it does not show any signs of wear.

Logitech Zone Wireless 2 is also made with replaceable parts: you can replace battery and earpads in case they break or wear out. This extends the lifespan of the headset for those who do not have a habit of dropping them or are otherwise accident-prone with devices. Since the travel pouch is soft, nothing really protects the headset in the backpack. The bonus side is that the headset is very lightweight to take with you. Since I prefer (nowadays) earbuds I did not take these for a trip outside home.

Performance and Experience

I have been using the Logitech Zone Wireless 2 headset for two months, and I have to say that I am impressed by its performance and experience. Despite being the UC version, the headset works very well with Microsoft Teams. I had a few hiccups, but nothing that a dongle unplugging & plugging in would not fix. The headset also could connect to smartphone, and it is possible to switch between devices easily. Since I knew I would not be using these on the go or with phone, I skipped adding the second device. The sound quality of the headset is great, both for calls and music. The headset delivers a clear voice, and the ambient noise cancellation works well to block out unwanted sounds (like family at home and being in a meeting… We all know the pain).

Speaking about ANC. It is quite powerful and it is of course a good thing because on-ear design doesn’t naturally prevent the noise around. I was genuenly surprised how well ANC works and gives me space to focus without disturbing noises. Kids can be very loud at times… No, you do not get a total block but in my experience, it was more powerful than I expected, and many headsets provide.

Another important aspect is that the headset is very comfortable to wear, even for several hours. I usually prefer over-the-ear headsets or earbuds, but these on-ear headphones are surprisingly comfortable and lightweight. They do not hurt my ears, like many other on-ears do, or cause any fatigue, and on top they do not interfere with my glasses.

There is also USB A->C adapter included. I am really happy that USB-C is finally starting to be more common.

The battery life of the headset is also very good, and I can use it for an entire workday without needing to recharge it. I did not test how close it would be to 15 hours, but I am comfortable saying you can go on at least one and half workday without needing to charge. My personal meter here, is that if the headset truly lasts a long workday (say: 12-14 hours) it is enough. Anything in 15+ hours is usable for work use when it comes to battery life.

Conclusion

In my experience The Logitech Zone Wireless 2 headset is a good and reliable business headset that meets needs for work easily. It has a lightweight design, a long enough battery life, ANC, a noise-canceling microphone, and Teams version has a seamless integration with Microsoft Teams. It also has a great sound quality for both calls and music, and a comfortable fit for being on-ear headphones. If you are looking for a new headset for work, I highly recommend you check out this one. The list price at Logitech site is $250, which can be a showstopper, but it is in the range where high-quality business headsets often are.

Overall, I was surprised how good this headset it. I didn’t have high hopes because it was on-ear, so I was in for a happy surprise. I can’t wear these all day, but I can wear them for hours. The flip microphone is a very clever feature. I don’t have much bad to say about these, but I usually prefer over-the-ear headset for extra ANC and comfort – except on a hot summer day. As the mic, ANC and audio are really good, this headset is making me to accept there are comfortable on-ears out there. If I knew I would have to wear a headset for 4+ hours without a break I would pick over-the-ears. And probably as tech continues to evolve there will be new over-the-ear headsets that best these and previous one. But until that day comes…
